An expression of the Earth’s love for the Sun

This is the English translation of the Marathi poem पृथ्वीचे प्रेमगीत .
The original poem was too beautiful to not be shared with my friends. कुसुमाग्रज , was indeed a master at imagination, weaving scientific facts with the beauty of love. My only contribution here is the translation, and change of rhyme scheme from abcb to abab.

Ages after ages zoom, O bright one…
How long, from you, must I stay?
How long must I keep round the run?
How many appeals must on I pray?

No longer remain the heavy, bated breaths
Far is my body’s fire from its reaches
The flame of the youth has had deaths
My heart’s now left with only dark niches

Inside me, still is awake love’s spark
And so shall it remain for eons too…
Round and around, I go without a mark
All I know is that I follow you

The stars shine on me, in pomp and glory
And flash and shower aurora down
Without you, O lord, what would be my story?
Then in darkness, would my universe drown!

Collecting the strewn beads of light
Scattered away from you by chance
The Moon wishes to get self in sight
Accepting and practicing his pitiful penance

At my doorstep, in his radiant gait
Stands loving Venus – evening and morns
Bushing red is the Mars in wait
Ho proposes me, shedding all his scorns

Celibate and dejected stays the Pole Star
And has chosen a life with the monks!
With blown hair, as if by wind in a car,
The Comet asks me out, quite on the rocks!!

Seeing and worshipping your eternal brightness
How can fireflies now make my necklace?
May God drive away the weak and their nearness
Even your distance beats them in grace!

The Laval sparks out pool all the lakes
As do your memories come up burning
My whole and soul shakes and quakes
As your thoughts get my insides churning

How I wish to merge in your dynamic hips
Your neck be intertwined in mine!!
How I want to drink the fire in your red lips
And the climax reach, with me in arms thine

O Limitless Friend, with incomparable highness
I know I’m just a soiled dot
To adorn and sing your pedal greatness
The ornament of soil is all my worthy lot!
