Floating on the Pool

I see you smiling
Though my glass and yours
Those faint lines
At the ends of your eyes
The slight dimple
That many may miss

I recognize the gaze
in those lovely black eyes
Intent, silent, resolute

Half a world away
between cycles of
The sun and the moon
I still recognize that smile
I still recognize that gaze

I remember how it used
To warm me up from within
And here I stand today
With a friendly smile
And a friendly gaze

Every day we realize
The many things unexplored
The many efforts untaken
The many memories,
Starting to be forgotten

Barriers, boundaries and choices
Breaking us apart
What remains then, I ask?
You smile again yet
with a different smile
and a different gaze

I lie motionless
floating on the pool
Afraid to drown
Afraid to swim
Afraid to get out
