Floating on the Pool

I see you smiling
Though my glass and yours
Those faint lines
At the ends of your eyes
The slight dimple
That many may miss

I recognize the gaze
in those lovely black eyes
Intent, silent, resolute

Half a world away
between cycles of
The sun and the moon
I still recognize that smile
I still recognize that gaze

I remember how it used
To warm me up from within
And here I stand today
With a friendly smile
And a friendly gaze

Every day we realize
The many things unexplored
The many efforts untaken
The many memories,
Starting to be forgotten

Barriers, boundaries and choices
Breaking us apart
What remains then, I ask?
You smile again yet
with a different smile
and a different gaze

I lie motionless
floating on the pool
Afraid to drown
Afraid to swim
Afraid to get out

Of small men

What a small man
A petty, small man
Stealing a morsel that never was his
A plate of his rots away meanwhile

What a petty man
To scrounge and groan
And wallop and moan
Grunting profanity, spitting hatred

Squeezing nectar from rock
Shoving it away
In lament and dismay

Torment and abuse
Of an unending unhappiness
Curtailed vantage that wasn’t
An unworldly seizure of
What never would

What a small man..
As small as it may
What a petty man
Blaming it all away

Eternity

An eternity lies
Between you and me

Of possibilities, impossibilities
And the in betweens
That tears us mercilessly apart

You in your tune
Me in my beat
Weaving music that
Never was heard

An eternity of denial
And an eternity of nothing

Only to culminate
Into an eternity of silence

Meat

"Oh but you don't eat meat! Mind if I do?"

"Please go ahead. I could try some too."

"You don't have to."

"Haha! I don't really mind. I've cheated on my religion long ago."

"Well. Not with me."

The Silver Earring

She carefully made up her eyes and straightened her sundress. Yes, the little green flowers on the off white top matched her eye shadow.

Perfect, she thought. Reed will probably like it.

She picked up the pair of silver earrings and put them on. She smiled at the memory it brought back to her.
She'd been wearing the same pair of earrings, when he'd held her close previously.

The little green flowers also matched the wreath.
